Water Heater - Hot Water Pipe Leak

One of the most basic dangers of a leaking water heater is the damage to the surrounding floor and walls.

There are generally 3 reasons to consider why a hot water pipe starts leaking:

1. There is increased water pressure in the tank
2. A faulty float valve
3. An overused washer

One of the most basic dangers of a leaking water heater is the damage to the surrounding floor and walls.  Again, it can lead to mold and even seep down into the foundation of the home and can weaken the foundation.  If water is coming from the water heater it has the potential to be dangerous and even deadly.  If gas is leaking near the water heater, the ignition flame can ignite the gas causing an explosion.  The water pressure heats and begins to build up pressure inside the tank which causes the explosion.
